Concussion

What is Concussion?

Concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth.

Concussion is becoming more understood with further research. We know the importance of assessing it properly and then putting a specific plan in place for return to normal function, work or sport.

Post-concussion symptoms can affect you physically, mentally and emotionally:

  • Headache

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Confusion

  • Fatigue

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Irritability

  • Dizziness and balance issues

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Anxiety or depression

Everyone responds differently to a knock and vary with symptoms lasting a few hours up to several months.

Concussion Screening Services

At West Coast Health we offer a concussion screening service, baseline concussion testing, and post concussion screening, assessment and management. Phoebe & Liam both have a special interest in concussion and have completed extensive training on concussion management.

From initial pre-season baseline testing to concussion treatment and rehabilitation, we collaborate with primary care physicians to co-manage concussions, helping patients and athletes safely return to learn, work and play.
